How Often Should You Repaint Your Home Interior?

Painting's beautiful, but prices are always a major concern for the observant client. How often should you get your house painted?

How can you know when it's time to repaint? Let's go over the most common signs first. At large, it's a visual matter: if you see peeling or bubbling, or stain marks that just won't go away anymore, that's a dead ringer for a surface in need of a makeover. Daily use, food messes, sunlight, and more all contribute to the gradual wearing down of surfaces, and that's ok! It's natural. The important thing here is simply to know how to deal with it appropriately.

When facing worn surfaces like this, laying a new coat is the only way to go---just make sure you repair any surface damage before doing so! There's no point in making a house look great if the inside is still a mess.

When it comes to the rooms themselves, though, they'll all differ in some way. Different rooms, different degrees of wear and tear. Here are some of our best estimates:

Living/dining room: 5-7 years (Daily use and constant sunlight exposure)

Kitchens: 3-4 years (Grease, moisture, food messes)

Bedrooms: 5-10 years (Sunlight exposure and regular use)

Bathrooms: 3-4 years (High humidity, steam exposure)

Hallways/Entryways: 2-5 years (High exposure to bags, shoes, and other materials)

Ceilings: 7-10 years (Smoke, cooking residue, leaks)

As a disclaimer, these are timeframes, not exact counts. Some rooms may last longer or need care quicker than what's listed above, but the ranges you see are what's most common.

So, what's the moral of this story? Keep an eye on your house. If you see something's off, get it taken care of! This is all about making sure your house looks beautiful for years to come. Nine times out of ten, a new paint job is the raceway there.
